MONMOUTH Assembly Member, Nick Ramsay, has welcomed today’s announcement of the names of the Olympic torchbearers who have been awarded the honour of carrying the torch on its journey through Monmouthshire on 25th May.
Speaking after the names were released Nick said: “I was delighted to see the diverse range of ages and backgrounds of our chosen torchbearers.
“I hope there will be excellent local support for these inspirational people on the morning of Friday 25th May when the Olympic flame is carried through the streets of Monmouth, Raglan and Abergavenny.
“The details of the streets along which the torchbearers will be carrying the flame have also been revealed today. We now know the torch will be carried through Monmouth starting at around 11am on 25th May before moving on to Raglan and then Abergavenny where it will depart at around 12.30pm.
“These details, released well in advance, should ensure local people can plan for the celebrations welcoming the Olympic torch to our area. It should also mark the beginning of the build-up of excitement to the start of the Games in the summer.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming the Olympic torch to Monmouthshire and am sure we will all be keen to take part in this historic event.”
