AM Once Again Highlights Chepstow’s Traffic Problems

Thursday, 3 October, 2019

Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, once again flagged up Chepstow’s traffic chaos with the Welsh Government during this Tuesday’s Business Statement  in the Assembly Chamber.

Nick said: “The last few weeks have seen, once again, traffic chaos in Chepstow due to a number of roadworks and lane closures. I've called a number of times in this Chamber for work to be done on a Chepstow bypass. I know that the Minister has listened to those pleas and I think discussions have happened. So, I wonder if we could have an update at some point—and I think the Minister's updating you now—from the Minister for transport, and now, if he likes, on where we are with trying to get to grips with some of the traffic problems, particularly at rush hour, within Chepstow and whether there have been those all-important cross-border discussions between the UK and Welsh Governments on the viability of a bypass, of which I accept two thirds would be across the border in Gloucestershire.”

In response, Minister for Finance, Rebecca Evans AM, stated that “the Minister was advising me that he spoke to the Secretary of State of transport just two weeks ago on this particular issue and he’s be happy to write to you with an update.”
