Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, was very pleased with the prompt action taken by Torfaen County Borough Council last week after the local Assembly Member requested the Chief Executive to act urgently to install temporary fencing at Cwmbran’s Boating Lake prior to last weekend’s big event there.
Local residents had been calling on the Council and Network Rail to re-instate a missing twenty metre section of fencing adjacent to the busy railway track for a number of years to protect the public from passing high speed trains.
Nick said: “I was delighted to learn that the temporary fence was erected last week and will be happy to work with the Council and Network Rail to ensure the permanent fencing is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.
“I understand a 1.8 m high metal palisade fence will soon be erected, and know local residents are delighted at the news. Cwmbran Boating Lake area will be a far safer recreational area as a result of the Council’s action.”
