Monmouth Assembly Member, Nick Ramsay, wrote to the Welsh Government recently requesting that a reduced speed limit is considered on the busy A40 near Nevill Hall Hospital following constituents’ concerns about the speed of traffic in this location.
Nick has just received the following reply from Ken Skates AM :
“My officials and the Welsh Local Government Association have established a Task and Finish Group which is considering how we should introduce a default 20mph speed limit. The group will be identifying and seeking resolutions to any barriers that local authorities may face in this regard.
The Task and Finish Group will also consider to which roads the proposed default 20mph limit will apply . This will include consideration of those sections of trunk roads, such as the A40 in Abergavenny, that run through residential areas. However, at this early stage no decision has been made on whether any section of the trunk road network should be exempted.
The Speed Limit Review which will consider speeding and other road safety issues on all trunk roads in Wales has already commenced. Your constituent’s comments will be taken into account as part of this process when the speed limit on this section of the A40 is reviewed. Any works or actions arising from the review will be prioritised subject to availability of funding. “
Commenting on the reply Nick said: “ I am pleased that my constituents’ concerns will be taken into account when the Speed Limit Review is considered. Hopefully it will not be too long before we see a positive outcome on this issue.”
