Electric charging infrastructure “woefully inadequate” says Monmouth AM

“Woefully inadequate” were the words used by Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay to describe the current electric vehicle charging infrastructure not just in Monmouthshire but throughout Wales.

Promising to raise the profile of the issue at the Assembly over the coming months, Mr Ramsay said he had recently heard from a constituent who stopped at the Magor Services intending to use the one rapid charge point there, only to find it wasn’t working.

“One charging point at the motorway services is clearly ludicrous – on a motorway network you would expect it to be comprehensive. I raised these problems in the Chamber last year following a planning application for a charging station near Monmouth, arguing that electric charging should be favoured by the planning system

“Wales seems to be lagging behind other parts of the UK in developing this infrastructure – this needs to change.”

“I will make sure I raise this issue in the Assembly – perhaps there is a case for legislation to promote the provision of greater charging capacity in both urban and rural areas.”
