Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has written to the Welsh Government Minister for Transport, Ken Skates AM, on behalf of residents of Goytre Fawr who are fearful of crossing the busy A4042 that runs through their village.
Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said:” I raised this issue a few years ago but the problem is becoming more severe due to the increase in traffic. Shockingly, such is the extent of the problem that villagers choose to stay on the bus into Abergavenny and return on the next available bus so that they don’t have to cross the road. Elderly residents and families with prams and pushchairs feel especially marooned and concerned for their safety.
"I have again taken the issue up with Mr Skates who has informed me that residents’ concerns will be taken on board when this section of the trunk road is looked at as part of a three year Speed Limit Review. The results of the review will be made available on line and any works arising from the wider review will be prioritised as funding allows for a programmed completion over the next three to four years.
“Sadly, it looks as if local residents will have to wait for the completion of the Review before any measures are even considered to improve this unsatisfactory situation. I will continue to monitor progress on their behalf.”
