Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, enjoyed his visit to Gwent Angling Society’s Open Day held last Saturday 8th June at Ty Mawr, near Gilwern.
Knowledgeable guides who fish and teach on the river gave demonstrations and explained fishing and casting techniques in both single handed and double handed fishing, and visitors had the opportunity to fish with expert coaching and advice on hand.
Visitors could also join classes on country life skills, learning about our varied flora and fauna as well as picking up tips on the art of successful fly fishing.
Speaking today Nick said: “ I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the open day. There was so much information with tuition and advice available on a wealth of subjects for both the novice and more experienced angler.
“I visited the open day last year and had to come back again. From having a go at casting and fly tying to fly dressing, there was plenty to entertain and keep me interested. Gwent Angling Society had clearly worked very hard to make the day such a success. Well done, I hope to see you again next year!”
