Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, yesterday joined NFU Cymru’s President, John Davies, at an event held at the Senedd to mark the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation’s World Food Day.
The lunchtime event provided an opportunity for all those present to enjoy a special menu featuring a range of fine Welsh produce and to recognise all those in Wales who play their part in putting high quality, nutritious and affordable food on our tables.
Speaking after the event Nick said: “ Our farmers in Wales and food and drink producers are part of a hugely important industry worth £6.8bn to the Welsh economy annually, and provide employment to 217,000 people.
“Welsh farmers uphold the highest standards of animal welfare, and I fully understand the anxiety that exists in many quarters given the uncertainty over the future. From the discussions I have had with members of the local farming community I am very aware of the threats they are facing to their livelihoods, and will continue to do all I can to assist them whenever possible at the Assembly.”
