Monmouth AM, Nick Ramsay has signed a petition started by staff at Mounton House, Chepstow, in the hope of overturning a proposal by Monmouthshire County Council to close the school, possibly by the end of this year.
Mounton House is Monmouthshire’s only state-run special school and offers day and residential placements for boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The school helps the lives of pupils, and staff want to save the school for the benefit of future generations.
Speaking today Nick said: “I was happy to sign the petition the staff have organised, in the hope of saving Mounton House.
“I appreciate the very difficult decisions the council is having to make due to severe budgetary pressures, and I’m sure Monmouthshire County Council is all too aware of the effect a possible closure of the school will have both on staff and pupils both now and in the future. Let’s hope some solution can be found to this difficult situation.”
