Local Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, last week attended the farewell concert held for the group of children from Chernobyl who had been staying with local families in the Raglan area for the last few weeks.
The concert was held in Raglan Baptist Church and was organised by Jane Hines, and included a short performance by the children.
Speaking after the concert Nick said: “I was very pleased to be able to attend the concert and to meet the visiting children and some of the host families at the end of their visit to Monmouthshire.
“Although the Chernobyl nuclear power station explosion occurred in 1986, people living in the vicinity are still suffering from the effects of contamination which has infiltrated the land and food and impairs the immune system. The opportunity for some children to visit Monmouthshire from Chernobyl gives them a great experience to live for a short time away from contamination. Well done to all those involved in organising the visits which I hope will continue for many years to come.”
