Local Member of the Welsh Parliament for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, is once again calling for improvements to the A4042 in Monmouthshire with the opening of the new critical care Grange Hospital in Llanfrechfa due in a few months’ time.
Mr Ramsay has been urging the Welsh Government to improve the substandard narrow and winding A4042 which will be an important route to the new hospital for patients needing critical care and travelling from Monmouthshire
Speaking today Nick said: “We need a far safer and quicker route through the county when the new critical care centre opens at Llanfrechfa towards the end of this year. This is an issue I’ve been raising repeatedly with Welsh Government and the Health Board, but my concerns and those of my constituents have been falling on deaf ears.
“Assurances that a helicopter could be provided to transport patients should this be necessary are all well and good, but what we really need is a modified trunk road better suited to cope with normal traffic and which is safer and not affected by flooding. I continue to urge the Welsh Government to accept that improvements are needed before lives are lost as a result of its failure to take action.”
