Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay was among those taking part in a ‘Save a life’ short learning session, held at the Senedd, last Wednesday.
The event was sponsored by Suzy Davies AM, and promoted by Cardiff City Youth Council and the British Red Cross.
Up to 59 per cent of pre-hospital deaths from injury could have been prevented with basic first aid, such as placing pressure on a bleed or tilting someone’s head.
Speaking after the session, Nick said: “Over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the UK every year and sadly, less that one in ten people survive. Initiating CPR can double the chances of survival.
“Too many people don’t know how to help someone having a cardiac arrest, asthma attack or seizure, choking or bleeding.
"It was a very interesting and instructive session and I would urge more people to consider learning some of the basic skills which can help save a life.”
