Wales remains poorest part of UK

Commenting on figures published by EuroStat, showing that Wales has the lowest GDP of all UK nations and regions, just 82% of the average of the 27 EU countries, Nick Ramsay AM, Shadow Minister for Economy, Business, Technology & Science, said:

“These are shocking figures laying bare the frailty of the Welsh economy.

“After a decade of Labour governments in the Assembly, Wales remains the poorest part of the UK and Welsh GDP is consistently well below the EU average.

“Welsh Ministers need to start working constructively with the UK Government and the business community to create the conditions for economic growth, maximise Wales’ appeal to potential investment and make Wales a more prosperous nation.”
